Analysis of Jeffrey Young's conditional schemas in the hero of the novel Absolute Yomiyat by "Haifa Bitar"
Introduction: The novel Absolute Yomiyat by Haifa Bitar is a post-modern novel written in the first person and is a criticism of the prevailing conditions in Arab countries and its traditional and patriarchal atmosphere. The author of the story tries to express his annoyance from this situation through the meaning of the text and the creation of the characters. This novel, which was written by Haifa Bitar, a Syrian doctor and writer who won the Abolqasem Shabi Award, actually reflects the complicated situation of a doctor whose wife is in love with him at first, but gradually love fades and hatred takes its place. And loving someone else causes him to withdraw from this obligation in general and seek to divorce his wife, but it keeps him in a suspended state for about four years. In the meantime, the female character is attracted to another person, but she cannot marry him because she has not yet received a divorce stamp on her birth certificate. This caused her a scandal and caused her family, who loved her in the past, to abandon her . She is always struggling with problems and this issue activates schemas in her. This novel depicts her suffering well. The female character writes her memoirs, the name of the novel is derived from her diaries, in which she reveals her heartbreaks.
Methodology: In this research, which is written in a descriptive-analytical way, we will have a concrete view of the Arab world and especially the Syrian society and look at its impact on the neurosis of the main character of the novel and the factors influencing the formation of schemas in him. Also, we will uncover each and every conditional schema in the main character of the novel and criticize and analyze them by citing examples. . This research is because the neurotic character of the story gives us the possibility to look at the main character of the novel with a psychotic perspective and analyze Jeffrey Young's conditional schemas in him.
Results and discussion: The main character of the novel suffers from emotional inhibition, obedience, self-sacrifice, and stubborn standards. The origin of the schema of emotional inhibition, forcing his parents to be silent in the face of oppressive laws and not supporting him in emotional crisis situations, love failure and lack of empathy with him, and the rule of silence instead of empathy and support, as well as a cold and unloving wife which has caused him resentment, has arisen. Obedience schema due to the parents being overly strict on him in following the rules etc., their love is conditioned and conditioned in a way that we witness in the novel, when he does not behave according to their wishes and engages in forbidden love and gets divorced, between them emotional divorce is formed; As he has pointed out many times, he eats alone, his only happiness is his young child, his father first takes his eyes from him and then puts a seal of silence on his mouth and silence reigns between them. Also, the pattern of self-sacrifice, self-sacrifice, and self-sacrifice also arose from the neglect, blame, and aggression of the ex-wife and her parents. Stubborn standards / extreme criticism comes from the fact that she was constantly under the control and support of her parents in her life so that she wouldn't make a mistake and she wants everything to be in order with an extreme vision. . Hence, it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between the schema of sacrifice and obedience.
Conclusion: The results of this research indicate that the main character of the novel suffers from emotional inhibition, obedience, self-sacrifice, and stubborn standards among the types of conditional schemas. According to the origin of these schemas, the parents' lack of support for him in emotional and forced crisis situations Making it silent (emotional inhibition), conditioning parents' love (obedience), blaming parents and ex-wife's aggression (sacrifice) and being under parental control (stubborn standards/extreme criticism).
